Derek* developed a condition called retinitis pigmentosa years ago which caused his sight to deteriorate over a number of years. Now, Derek has lost almost all his vision and is considered legally blind. However, it hasn’t dampened his vibrant, easy-going personality, he’s truly a pleasure to be around.
To us, providing person-centred, inclusive care is about taking the time to get to know your clients, what’s important to them and what forms their identity. We decided to surprise Derek this morning with his favourite sweets and a talking card recorded by our team, sending birthday wishes in his first language, Welsh.
